Helmet - Obviously the most important protective gear is the helmet - to protect your skull. It is important that a helmet fits properly. A good fit means level on your head, touching all around and comfortably snug, but not tight. The helmet should not move more than about an inch in any direction, and must not pull off no matter how hard you try. A helmet should also be light in weight and should provide adequate ventilation, because intense aerobic activity significantly raises your body temperature, and the head in particular needs to be able to regulate its temperature.
