Whilst the trend these days is to simply replace a punctured tube, it is not only cheaper but environmentally friendlier to repair that holed tube. This is bike maintenance at its simplest.
Puncture repair kits are inexpensive and easy to use and should be carried on every ride together with a set of tyre levers.
Do not forget that every puncture has a cause - sometimes obvious and visible - like a nail or pin, but usually unseen. You need to determine where on the tyre your puncture was and then check thoroughly for a possibly minute piece of wire or glass that has caused the pucture. Sometimes you are initially unable to find or even feel it. Check for small splits inside and outside your tyre where the tube was punctured. It is not unusual to find a small bit of glass or wire in that split, which you may not feel, but when the tyre is inflated and ridden on, is pushed inwards and re-punctures your tube! |
