IMax 3W LED Bike Light   

This is a compact and solidly made bike light. It is multifunctional - is supplied with a bicycle handlebar bracket, and easily slides out preventing theft, and at the same time making a great torch. 

It has two modes, constant on or flash.

This is a VERY bright and powerful light.

It gives out a focused beam, approx. 1m in diameter, 10m ahead of you, and it is very bright in that circle!!  I personally have used it cycle touring in the middle of the bush at night - and whilst not a 20W HID light, it is bright enough to see the track and get safely home.

This light makes a great camping torch as well. Compact, light, very bright for its size and the light diffuser underneath throws a bit of light at your feet whilst the main beam can be held metres in front.

Rechargeable NiMH Batteries
If you are going to only use your front light as a flasher, then certainly standard alkaline batteries will be fine, and will give a decent life. If you intend to regularly use the light as a torch, or in constant bike light mode, then do consider rechargeable batteries. A set of NiMH batteries, in between charges, will last 3-4 times longer than standard batteries, and will recharge 100s of times - making your battery cost negligible in the longer term.
