Features and General Information for Fluid Trainer:

Fluid resistance trainers offer realistic feedback that mimics conditions out on the road by responding to minute changes in speed and power more progressively. This is especially important at lower speeds and cadences as it removes the jerkiness sometimes found on magnetic and wind trainers. These are for experienced riders looking to ride regularly indoors, and wanting the best ride possible from an indoor bike trainer set-up but without the budget of an Ergo Bike Trainer.

FAQs
Q. Is this fluid trainer quiet?
A. These are the quietest form of wind trainers.
Q. I have heard fluid trainers leak-does this happen?
A. All fluid seals can fail. We have sold over 800 cycle trainers to date and have had 3 warranty claims. We found in all cases that they were damaged during delivery and the units were replaced by us at no charge. If you are still concerned and are training on an expensive Persian Rug - put a cover underneath!
Q. If I break the lever or lose a part what can I do?
A. We carry a full range of spare parts to ensure years of training on your machine. The most commonly sold spare part is the lever. If you get too excited training and jerk roughly at it, it can break! This is not covered by warranty unless there was an issue when new.
Q. Do I need a riser block
A. It is not essential - many people use a telephone book, the riser block is neater!
Q. Will this ruin my tyres?
A. Drive rollers are more abrasive than the road but tyre wear will depend on the type/style of tyre and the hours on the machine. Occassional users generally have no issues, whilst people who train large amounts sometimes prefer to use an old tyre.
Q. I have set up my fluid trainer and it does not seem to have any resistance, is the unit not set up right or faulty?
A. Fluid trainers do not offer the direct resistance available from a magnetic trainer and to first timers often appear to be "not working". The oil in the drive unit takes about 10 minutes to warm up and become more viscous, then gradually offering more "resistance". The change is only subtle though and not as direct as a mag trainer. Most people still prefer a fluid trainer - due to the more "natural road like feel".
Q. My resistance levers do not seem to work - are they broken?
A. First read the Q&A item directly above. Then: In a magnetic trainer the resistance lever directly dials up magnetic resistance and when you slam the lever setting the change is felt strongly and directly. In a fluid trainer the lever alters the angle of vanes inside the fluid drive, hence producing a much more subtle effect - depending on your strength and how hot the oil is - it can be imperceptible.
* Pro rata warranty: If there is a warranty problem with the fluid drive after the full 2 year warranty has run out, it will be replaced at a discount to the spare part cost at the rate of: Year 3 less 70%, Year 4 less 50%, year 5 less 30%.
