The most important part in helmet sizing is to get a snug fit around the crown, or widest part, of your head. Extra padding is supplied to then custom fit to your cheek area.

Inside the box aside from the helmet you get your standard helmet sock type bag, you also get a full on padded bag for the helmet which is very high quality. My helmet also came with a set of thicker cheek pads and a thicker headliner, very impressive!
The helmet itself is incredibly comfortable, by the far the most comfortable dirt helmet i've ever had on my head. I'm typically a large, but in kali sizes i was a medium so keep this in mind. One thing i also noticed and this may be a feature or not depending on who you are, but the helmet is very quiet, i dont know if that's because of the foam they use, or the liner or what, but it is definitely noticeable coming from my HJC.
So far I have absolutely zero complaints, the closest thing to a complain i have is that it takes someone smarter than me to figure out how to put the headliner back in after taking it out for washing.

The Kali Prana Carbon Helmet
It is obvious what helmet style reigns supreme in the mountain market; the moto-style helmet is the most common (and most imitated) and no one will argue that point. They give you the option of any goggles, breath deflectors and plenty of paint jobs to choose from. But the carbon helmet has become more affordable and much more popular in recent years. Carbon lets your neck take a breather from the constant whiplash sensation accustomed with some of the heavier polymer models.
We spent last season testing the new carbon helmet from Kali Protectives, a company that flew mostly under the radar before the last few years.
The Prana helmet is ridiculously light and we were hard pressed to find a lighter one. That doesn’t mean Kali skimped on features. Comfort was not sacrificed in the least, and all the obligatory safety features are in place. It’s easy to forget the helmet is on at all; it has great air space and is unobtrusive, and ended up staying on most the day.
If this helmet looks familiar it is because Motorfist is using it as there signature helmet. The Motorfist branded helmet is a Kali Prana FRP the non carbon brother.
After talking with Kali we decided to go with the one size larger helmet because of the padding it is thicker than most helmets, but is soft and pliable enough to fit comfortably with and without a balaclava on. No excess movement on warmer days without the balaclava but never to tight with the thickest on the coldest days.
Kali has taken safety to a new level with there composite fusion technology. The foam has two forms built in: the first layer consists of cones protruding in every direction, and the second is a softer foam laid over the top of the cones. The shell is attached directly to the foam which eliminates the controversial air space between the foam and the outer shell typically found in old school helmets. The reason for building a helmet in this fashion is all about safety: Force = mass x acceleration, i.e. the slower the combined mass of your brains moves during the final impact of foam, the safer the helmet.
Price: For a Full carbon helmet that weighs 1200 grams with prices settling around $350.00 it is lighter weight and about $100.00-$200.00 dollars cheaper than the flooded market of moto style helmets. It also meets AMA, FIM, CCS, WERA racing certifications, And is DOT certified.
Bottom Line this helmet is light, comfortable and safe. Does what a helmet should.

After looking at many helmets, my pick for the most protective helmet available for motocross is the Kali Prana. The unique construction and materials add to your safety. In my opinion the Snell sticker just makes the helmet more expensive not prevent the average motocross head injury. Check out this quote from MXA test of Kali Prana helmets.

Dubbed “Composite Fusion Plus,” the Prana Carbon incorporates an inner foam liner of pyramid-like structure of different foam densities. These structures take the brunt of the initial impact and direct energy sideways within the foam instead of linearly down to your head. Essentially, the “Composite Fusion Plus” features a shock absorbing liner based on a series of compressible cones that work much like the crumple zones on a car. The cones are arranged to provide varying degrees of compression so that the more delicate areas of the riders skull are offered greater protection. The result is a lighter and stronger helmet design. MXA is familiar with dual-density foam, but Kali’s forward-thinking design is intriguing.
By using two densities of foam and arranging them in a unique porcupine layout, the Kali Prana absorbs energy as the pointy parts crush laterally.
VERDICT: On MXA’s scale, any helmet that weighs less than three pounds is exceptionally light. The Kali Prana Carbon weighed in at a svelte 2.75 pounds (size Medium). The Kali Prana Carbon is available in sizes XS through XL, and in two color ways (Skari black or white). Kali also sells the Prana FRP, which has a fiberglass shell and retails for $249. The Prana Carbon comes with a thin storage bag, as well as a very nice helmet travel bag. If you are looking for a very lightest, high-end, certified motocross helmet—this is it. The ingenious pyramid-shaped, dual-density, inner foam liner is a show stealer. Composite Fusion PLUS Technology in Kali Motorcross Helmets
The purpose of a helmet is to absorb the energy of an impact to minimize or prevent a head injury. A helmet does this by transferring the energy to the foam, which crushes as it absorbs the impact. However, the way in which a helmet is constructed plays an important role in how the helmet absorbs the energy.
There are basically two ways that most companies construct a helmet. The traditional construction of full-face and skate-style helmets features impact foam glued to a hard outer shell. The other common way, which is typically used in cross-country-style helmets, has the foam molded directly to the hard exterior shell and is commonly referred to as in-molding.
Using an advanced form of in-molding, Kali has developed two designs that effectively disperse impact energy better than a traditional full-face helmet, which allows them to offer the same or better protection as other helmets in a lighter package. The secret is in their patented manufacturing technique and tooling; Kali is the first company to figure out how to produce the full outside shell of a full-face and then to have the EPS injected inside that formed shell. Here’s a quick overview of a traditional full-face helmet construction compared to Kali’s COMPOSITE FUSION™ and COMPOSITE FUSION™ Plus technology.
In the above picture, a traditional full-face helmet design features foam glued to the inside of the outer shell. While this helmet construction can provide adequate protection, it is not ideal because the design can leave gaps in between the foam and the shell. When a helmet sustains an impact, the force must first break through the hard shell before it gets to the part of the helmet that dissipates the energy. Besides offering a more durable helmet covering, the main role of a hard exterior is to help spread out the impact energy across more of the foam inside the helmet to absorb the shock. In addition, many helmet manufacturers use dual density foam to help absorb the impact energy more efficiently.
Kali’s Composite Fusion™ design provides a super tight (almost molecular) bond between the helmet shell and the energy absorbing material inside. This tight connection between these two materials prevents gaps, which transfers shock more efficiently through to the softer EPS foam materials. It also allows Kali to use a thinner shell that breaks down faster and allows the energy to be absorbed more efficiently. Kali also uses dual density foam, with the softer material near the head, to dissipate the energy sustained from an impact.
Taking the COMPOSITE FUSION™ technology a step further, Kali’s COMPOSITE FUSION ™ Plus has the same super tight connection but also incorporates a special impact foam design. Using geometric shapes of different densities inside the foam, the Composite Fusion™ Plus technology further helps dissipate the shock forces as they travel through the foam. In this image, the different colors of the dual density foam highlight the pyramid shape of the Composite Fusion™ Plus design, with the softer material near the head. Interestingly enough the Plus design is based on an Australian Invention, CONEHEAD TECHNOLOGY, which won World Inventor Of the Year in 2012 for its creator Don Morgan of Queensland!
Based on thousands of actual test results, this G-Force Scale demonstrates how impact force is registered and dissipated as the helmet takes impact. As you can see by the illustration, different types of helmet construction and materials absorb and dissipate impact energy differently.
Traditional As a traditional helmet absorbs the force of an impact, the transition from the hard shell to the foam is highlighted by a dip in the impact energy being absorbed (as the shell breaks down). This is not only inefficient, but can allow the energy to slightly magnify rather than continue dissipating.
COMPOSITE FUSION™ The way in which a COMPOSITE FUSION™ helmet absorbs the energy of an impact is much more fluid and effective than a traditional helmet. The smooth curve provides constant impact dissipation through the super tight shell/foam connection, reducing energy spikes.
COMPOSITE FUSION™ PLUS Compared to a COMPOSITE FUSION™ helmet, a COMPOSITE FUSION™ Plus helmet is even more efficient at absorbing impact energy, thanks to it additionally channeling impact energy laterally through its geometric shapes of dual-density foams. This promotes constant energy dissipation until the impact is relieved.
