Traditional 27" wheels typically use a 126mm hub width designed for screw-on freewheels. However, most vintage steel frames can be easily upgraded. By "cold setting" (carefully stretching) the rear stays from 126mm to 130mm, you can accommodate modern 8-10 speed quick-release cassette hubs. This is a game-changer for riders looking to modernize their drivetrain while keeping their classic steel frame.
