A 165mm skewer would typically fit:

• Rear wheels with 135mm OLD, where the dropouts are of standard thickness. The 165 mm gives some excess to accommodate the QR hardware.

• Road bikes that use 130mm spacing might also use a similar length skewer, but 165mm is more than needed; many of those will use a slightly shorter one. But often, people use a skewer even a bit longer without harm as long as there’s enough thread engagement.

• Trainer setups often use longer skewers so that the wheel can clamp properly into the trainer’s clamps, which may have thicker parts or require more thread-out.

Not suitable for disc brakes.
